Leadership Sen. Lautenberg’s support of the oceans is both practical and far-reaching. He has written laws to protect citizens, beaches and shores from the hazards of sewage and oil spills, introduced legislation calling for safer oil tankers and supports Coastal Estuary and coral reef protection. Among others, he is the author of S. 173 (Federal Ocean Acidification Research And Monitoring Act of 2009 or” FOARAM Act’), S. 878 (Clean Coastal Environment and Public Health Act of 2009) and S. 685 (Oil Spill Prevention Act of 2009). He has co-sponsored S. 783 (Clean Ocean and Safe Tourism Anti-Drilling Act), S. 575 (Clean, Low-Emission, Affordable, New Transportation Efficiency Act) and S. 170 (Coastal and Estuarine Land Protection Act).
