Leadership: Representing a district surrounded by the Gulf of Mexico on one side and the Atlantic on the other, Rep. Ros-Lehtinen understands the necessity of protecting the Oceans. Co-Founder and Co-Chair of the National Marine Sanctuary Caucus she has worked to “protect the environmental integrity of coral reefs and other coastal marine resources.” Rep. Ros-Lehtinen has cosponsored H.R. 3650 (Harmful Algal Bloom and Hypoxia Research and Control Amendments Act of 2009), H.R. 860 (Coral Reef Conservation Act Reauthorization and Enhancement Amendments of 2009), H.R. 4493 (Marianas Trench Marine National Monument Management Enhancement Act of 2010), H.R. 52 (Tropical Forest and Coral Conservation Act) and H.R. 5214 (Big Oil Bailout Prevention Act of 2010). She is the sponsor of H.R. (Caribbean Coral Reef Protection Act of 2010).
A former educator, Rep Ros-Lehtinen understands the need to get future generations involved with the oceans. She dove down to the Aquarius Undersea Laboratory in the Florida Keys where she participated in an online question and answers session with several school classrooms. Recently, she has pushed for accountability from BP and the Minerals Management Service for their role in the Gulf oil spill, and has cosponsored the Big Oil Bailout Prevention Act.
Rep. Ros-Lehtinen recently sponsored H.R. 2047 (Caribbean Coral Reef Protection Act of 2011), and cosponsored H.R. 2706 (Billfish Conservation Act of 2011) and H.R. 3393 (Amending the Oil Pollution Act of 1990)
